Casper Mattress Overview
Casper Mattress Construction and Materials
As far as construction goes, Casper offers multiple different varieties of mattresses, each with their own unique construction and materials. Casper uses layers of polyurethane foam, gel pods, memory foam, natural latex in all of their mattresses, and pocketed coils in select mattresses.
Casper has a total of 5 mattress designs on their website. Their most popular mattress is the Casper Original mattress, which has gone through a number of design changes over the years. The Casper Original is a 3-layer, zoned mattress with a top layer of breathable perforated polyurethane foam, a transition layer of memory foam, and a base layer of polyurethane foam. The Original Hybrid version features pocketed coils at the base as well. Of all Casper mattress types, the Casper Original and Hybrid Original would be the most comparable to the S&S Mattress and Hybrid Mattress.
The Casper Element mattress, replaces the former Casper Essential mattress, as their cheapest model. The Casper Element mattress has a 2-layer design featuring a top layer of breathable perforated polyurethane foam, with a base layer of polyurethane foam. The Casper Element mattress is 10" thick and is the thinnest mattress in the Casper line.
The Casper Nova Hybrid mattress is the newest model in the Casper line. Introduced in March 2020, it was marketed as their "most plush" mattress. The Casper Nova Hybrid mattress is priced in between the Casper Original and the Wave Hybrid. The Nova Hybrid mattress follows a similar theme within the entire line of mattresses, by using a top layer of perforated foam. This lies on top of a transitional layer of zoned polyurethane foam, a third layer of zoned memory foam, and a support layer of durable pocket coils encased in polyurethane foam.
The Casper Wave Hybrid is their highest priced model and is only offered in a hybrid models (previously, the Casper Wave mattress was offered an all-foam version but this no longer appears to be the case). The Casper Wave Hybrid features a top layer of breathable perforated polyurethane foam, a second layer of natural latex, a third layer of zoned memory foam, a fourth layer of polyurethane foam with gel pods, and a base layer of polyurethane foam. The Casper Wave Hybrid mattress is designed to have continuous ergonomic zones with gel pods.
Casper Mattress Firmness and Feel
We rate the Casper Element a 6.5/10 in terms of firmness. With two layers of balanced polyurethane foam, the Casper Element does have a slight sinking feel due to the structure of the perforated foam. However, unlike a memory foam mattress, the sinking in the Casper Element is not as prominent. The base layer is firm and very responsive, giving the mattress an overall semi-firm feel.
The Original Casper Mattress was rated at a 6.5/10 in terms of firmness as well. With multiple layers of polyurethane foam paired with a transitional layer of memory foam, the Original Casper mattress has an overall semi-firm feel, with minimal sinking due to the sturdy top layer of perforated polyurethane foam.
The Casper Wave Hybrid was rated a 6.0/10 in terms of firmness. Made from comfort layers of memory foam and polyurethane foam on top of a base of firm pocketed coils, the Wave Hybrid has an overall semi-firm feel. You’re likely to sink in to the top layers of foam, but the coil base provides a distinctly firmer feel.
The Casper Nova Hybrid was rated a 6.0/10 in terms of firmness. Made from two layers of perforated polyurethane foam followed by a zoned support foam layer and a base of pocketed coils, the Nova Hybrid has a semi-firm feel, although it is the softest of the Casper mattresses.
