Endy was founded in 2015 in Toronto, Ontario by CEO Mike Gettis and Chairman Rajen Ruparell (previously of Groupon International) with the goal of supplying Canadian consumers with bed-in-a-box mattresses that would ship right to their doors.

By offering a 100 night trial period to see if the mattress is right for you, Endy allows Canadian sleepers to avoid the high markups and pushy salespeople that remain present in brick and mortar mattress stores.

The Endy Mattress is a 100% foam mattress made from multiple different layers of polyurethane foam. The first layer (known as the comfort layer) is made from “Endy Foam” a proprietary open-cell polyurethane foam. Endy claims that this proprietary foam is more breathable when compared to traditional memory foam. This foam is more inexpensive to produce when compared to memory foam, and most polyurethane foams (such as Endy Foam) are 2.5-3lbs in density.

Next is the transition layer, which is made from a standard polyurethane foam. This foam does not posses the sinking effect of memory foam, and acts as a firmer layer for support between the comfort layer and the base layer. Lastly, the base layer is made from high-density polyurethane foam, which provides durability, and further support. These layers are quite firm when compared to other mattresses in the same category.

As far as firmness and feel goes, the Endy Mattress sits at a 6.7 on a scale of 1-10, from very soft to very firm. Due to it’s use of a proprietary polyurethane foam combined with firmer poly foam layers, the Endy mattress overall provides a medium firm feel.

Because the Endy Mattress does not use memory foam, the firmness of the transition and base layers are more pronounced, which contributes to the firmer feel of the mattress overall. This medium firm feel is suitable for those who prefer a firm mattress, such a back sleepers, and heavier sleepers.

The Endy Mattress is available online through the Endy website, which sells the Endy Mattress, as well as mattress protectors, sheets, duvets, bases, and other sleep products. Endy has also partnered with Urban Barn locations and other select retailers across Canada.

While Endy is made entirely from CertiPur-US Memory Foam (meaning it passes national health standards for harmful chemical compounds), Endy customers have still noted a strong odour emitting from the mattress when it is first opened.

If the odour of the mattress bothers you, Endy recommends that customers wait 24 hours before sleeping on the mattress to allow the odour to subside.

In 2017, Endy Sleep appeared on Season 12 of the popular Canadian television series Dragon’s Den, where they accepted an investment offer of $1,000,000 CAD for 7.5% of their company to Dragon’s Arlene Dickinson, Michele Romanow, and Joe Mimran. In 2018, Endy Sleep announced it was acquired by popular Canadian mattress retailer Sleep Country for $89,000,000 CAD.

Today, Endy continues to produce their memory foam mattresses in Canada.
